This video contains the welcome and introductory remarks from April 23, 2020.
Video on Solitude and Silence
This video introduces the spiritual disciplines of solitude and silence. Solitude is the state of being alone. It is being isolated from noise and distractions. The discipline of silence is the voluntary removal of noise from our surroundings. It is often necessary to remove ourselves from noise and people in order to connect with God and receive his instructions. Jesus himself often withdrew to solitary places so that he could spend quiet time with the Heavenly Father. We should follow his example. Applying What Was Learned: Homework from Dr. Graves
- Find a solitary place and spend at least 30 minutes this week in silence before the Lord. Bring a Bible and a journal if you like, but do not do a lot of talking. Simply rest in the Lord’s presence, think about his goodness, and allow him to minister to you as you quiet yourself before him.
- Were you more aware of God’s presence during your time of silence? When and how did you notice resistance to your desire to be silent? What was God saying to you in your silence? Check out the short devotion by Dr. Wilfred Graves entitled “Quiet Yourself Before the Lord.”
- If you are especially blessed by this assignment, or any other assignment from the class, please send an email describing your experience to ThreeBibleTeachers@gmail.com. Also, feel free to email us at any time with your testimonies.
